Rhodiola Rosea Extract
Our Rhodiola Rosea is a
close relative to Siberian Rhodiola Rosea and it is indigenous to the Tian
Shan mountains of Kyrgyzstan. In addition to Salidroside,
Thyrosol-glucoside, and Cinnamol alcohol glycosides are considered to be
the likely active components. Especially notable are Rosavidin and
Cinnamyl-0-(6'-0-L-arabinopyranosyl- D-glucopyranosid). Additional
constituents are Thyrosol and Cinnamic alcohol, the anthraglycosides Beta-sitosterin
and Daucosterol. Monoterpenes, flavonoids, tannins and essential oils have
also been found. Rhodiola Rosea has been shown thru wide scale
tests on healthy men and women to have positive effects on the nervous
system and to act as a mild depressant. Rhodiola Rosea extract is known
for its adaptogenic activity, which increases the body's resistance to
stress. Rhodiola rosea leads to an increase in the amount of basic
b-endorphin in the blood plasma which inhibits the hormonal changes
indicative of stress.
Cardioprotective Benefits of Rhodiola Rosea
Eksp Klin Farmakol 2002
Jul-Aug;65(4):19-22 [Article in
Russian]
Pharmacology Department, State Pharmaceutical Academy, Pyatigorsk, pr.
Kalinina 11, 357532 Russia.
It was experimentally established that prophylactic introduction of a
Rhodiola Rosea extract prevents the ischemic brain damage development. A
course administration of the drug in a dose of 700 mg/kg arrests the
development of hyper- and hypoperfusion in cerebral circulation, weakens
the postischemic hyperglycemic reaction, lowers oxygen extraction by
cerebral tissues, suppresses lactate acidosis, promotes pyruvate
participation in metabolic processes inhibits edema swelling, prevents
the "calcium paradox" development, and decreases manifestations of the
lipid peroxidation processes.
- Eksp Klin Farmakologie 1994
In a Russian study, an extract of Rhodiola
rosea was examined for its effects on the pattern of stress-induced
cardiac damage that was measured by enzyme accumulation in the heart.
Rhodiola rosea was found to prevent stress induced cardiac damage. The
extract was determined to prevent both stress-induced release of proteins
and higher enzyme levels, which could ultimately damage heart tissue. The
findings suggest anti stressor and cardio protective benefits of Rhodiola
rosea without harmful effects on the heart.
Rhodiola Rosea is also known as: Sedum roseum,
Rose Root, and Golden Root. We supply bulk and packaged forms of dry,
water and alcohol root extract using fresh, wild craft harvested roots.
Licorice
Licorice, Glycycrhiza glabra L., has long been
prized for the roots and rhizomes, which are used for flavoring and
medicinal purposes. We process roots cultivated and harvested in
Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. Our commercial licorice is
available in many forms, including sticks, peeled or unpeeled, solid
extract, and powdered extract.
Licorice contains glycyrrhizin, saponin,
asparagines, sugars, resin, bitter principles, a volatile oil, and other
compounds. Commercial glycyrrhizin is the ammoniated form of glycyrrhizic
acid, which tends to intensify other flavors, such as chocolate and maple.
Glycyrrhizin, the main constituent of licorice, is more than fifty times
sweeter than cane sugar.. The powdered licorice root is employed as a
natural sweetener in alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, tobacco,
confections, and pharmaceuticals.
As a medicinal plant, licorice has been
considered a demulcent, diuretic, emollient, expectorant, laxative,
pectoral, and stomachic. Folk remedies call for licorice to be used
against asthma, bronchitis, coughs, fevers ulcers, and cancers. Licorice
is generally recognized as safe for human consumption as a natural
flavoring and plant extract.
