Keles Free Economic Zone in Uzbekistan. This project is in the project definition phase. When completed this FEZ will be the first of its kind in Uzbekistan. This zone will be located just a few kilometers north-northwest of Tashkent on the border between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. First phase of development will utilize about 110 hectares of land to house a railroad and highway serviced container logistic center and facilities for transit, warehousing, repackaging, consolidation and distribution of freight. Future plans include expansion to include tax free processing, manufacturing and packaging of imported and local raw materials. Investments and funding for this project will be sought from the private sector. Ownership of this FEZ will be in the form of an open-joint stock corporation with majority control in private sector hands. The project managers are cooperating with the Government of Uzbekistan to develop the supporting tax codes and legislation in conformance with similar FEZs operating in other countries in the region.
